Self-Esteem and Personal Growth
Have you ever been around someone who seems at ease with themselves and doesn’t seem to give much thought to who they are or what others think about them? It’s so refreshing to be around people like that, isn’t it? The true idea behind having a healthy self-esteem is not that we are obsessed with feeling good about ourselves. It’s more about having an accurate view of yourself so you are free to be all of who you were made to be.
Women, in particular, have a tendency to give up their voice for the sake of harmony in relationships. The tendency to self-doubt, to allow others to define our validity or value, and even to deny our own instincts in favor of another’s perspective, can all lead us to settle for relationships which do not nurture and perhaps aren’t even safe. Animals trust their instincts. Babies also trust their instincts. But somewhere along the way, life experiences lead us to doubt ourselves to the point where we lose a sense of congruency between who we are and how we live our lives.
Counseling can help you to reclaim a sense of who you are – or help you to discover who you are – so that you are able to live in a way that matches your internal world and enjoy a better sense of well-being.
